He’s supercreepayyy!!

Yeah, so this was a hilariously failed experiment.  Without a doubt the worst thing I’ve done.  Oh actually, no.  The version that immediately preceded this one was possibly even creepier.

Anyway, I figured out several causes of problems:
– eyes too big and too far apart
– face not long enough
– too many line strokes intended to refine eye shape just end up looking like eyeliner
– perhaps most problematically: drew it one half at a time without really stepping back often enough to see how the whole thing was coming together.

Yeah, so this will definitely have to be a redo later on in the year.  Oh, and sorry for haunting your dreams tonight.

In a shocking upset to all conventional societal expectations, it turns out my mother-in-law is great.  Had a great day with her and the rest of the family.  Hope your Mothers’ Day was good too.

This is the first Sketch 365 piece that I’ve created based on a photo.  It feels a bit like cheating.  But the models sure stay still longer.

I realized that everything on here so far was manufactured objects and dudes.  Thought a change of scenery was in order.  This is a 10-minute charcoal sketch done at Art Center today.

Stopped in at one of Art Center’s regular figure drawing workshops to get inspiration for today’s sketch.  This guy was awesome, and could no doubt beat me up six ways from Sunday.  He had a lot of great 5-minute poses with props (which I butchered), and then this 10-minute one (which came out okay).  Maybe I’ll run into him again at some point and he’ll break out one of these.
