As part of the logo assignment from yesterday’s sketch, some of the other terms that came up were “tall,” “humor,” and “bike/scooter.” Â These are a few of the very basic exploratory sketches based on those notions. Â They also borrow heavily from my friend’s hilariously accurate description of me when I fold my 6’4″ frame onto my 125cc scooter: “You look like a trained bear on a tricycle.”

For a class assignment on personal logo design, I was asked to come up with a list of words that describe me and or my general style. Â After polling a few friends (and a spouse), the resounding (and not surprising) consensus revolved around neat/precise/linear/meticulous/exacting/perfectionist/etc. Â This was one of dozens of quick brainstorm sketches that drew on those ideas.

Was feeling pretty lazy this evening, so I just knocked out a very simplified brush pen drawing of our dessert hostess for the evening. Thanks, Lis!

I almost forgot to do a sketch today — but tragedy was averted at the last second with this two-minute self portrait. Not very accurate, but certainly less creepy than the last one!

Another very quick end-of-day doodle. Â Just a little visual recap of some of the things I was working on today.
Oh, wait; I guess I already did better versions of a couple of these.

Another quick little pen sketch, with body posture based on a magazine photo. Somewhere along the way, I must have decided this guy needed an awkward beard, horn-rimmed glasses, and a mildly disaffected expression. Worked out to be sort of a hipster trifecta.

I don’t use pen enough — so I figured I’d do a quick pen drawing. This is really loose and sketchy — in fact, I need to hold back from trying to refine pen lines so much. Anyway, this is based on an old photo of my wife’s grandmother stepping out with friends some time in the 40s.

In a shocking upset to all conventional societal expectations, it turns out my mother-in-law is great. Â Had a great day with her and the rest of the family. Â Hope your Mothers’ Day was good too.
This is the first Sketch 365 piece that I’ve created based on a photo. Â It feels a bit like cheating. Â But the models sure stay still longer.

…as they have become known. Â To me, anyway. Â Mainly because they are awesome, just like these 70’s soft-rock mustache legends.
