#262 – The Menagerie

MenagerieTried something different this evening — wanted to see if I could do a bunch of different animals in a cohesive style.  These are just basic characterizations, but it would be interesting to try some other animals or people as well and see how that would work.

#258 – The naked eye

Single eyeAnother late night where I didn’t know what to draw.  This was just a quick sketch based on a photo found online.

#257 – Pictionary puzzle

PictionaryIt’s been a long time since I last played Pictionary.  So this evening, I decided to grab a card and see if I could draw all five things on it in one sketch.  So, for your viewing pleasure, here’s a 1) Ragged 2) Lawyer 3) Choking on a 4) Pop Tart while on a 5) Maiden Voyage.

#252 – Grizzly, Man!

Bear punchHad my grandmother in town for a visit, and we spent the day doing lots of grandma type things (botanical gardens, tea, etc.).  As enjoyable as it was, at the end I felt like I needed to do something uniquely masculine to balance it all out.  Unfortunately, there were no grizzly bears around that I could punch in the face, so I had to settle for sketching it.

#248 – Useless wranglings

PunditSaw a bunch of political pundits on TV this evening.  Such a pointless charade.  Anyway, this started out based on a photo of James Carville, but as you can see, I pretty much abandoned any effort to make it actually look like him.  So now it’s just “generic angry bald guy.”

#244 – Park Place

AllendaleWe’re babysitting my niece and nephew this weekend, so today I took them to the park down the street.  A nice, relaxing morning.  I sat and sketched this while they were looking in the bushes for treasure.  As I finished, I discovered that my 4-year-old nephew had been working on a cocktail of sorts.  His found ingredients, combined in a discarded pudding cup: water, leaves, dirt, a small rock, some dried up olives, and a metal screw.  I resolved to be more attentive.

#241 – No idea

BowHad absolutely no idea what to draw this evening.  I don’t even really know where this came from.  I think I just started drawing and that’s what I ended up with.  An earlier incarnation had a one weird robot eye, but that just seemed weird for the sake of being weird (and I covered that already).

#238 – More bounce to the ounce

Trampoline

In the autumn a young man’s fancy turns to thoughts of bouncing around like a giddy 6-year-old.  And so was spent a portion of my afternoon.  (With summer gone, today my cousin set up the trampoline in his backyard, in the spot where the inflatable pool had sat all summer.  And there was much rejoicing.  Including some by his kids.)

#236 – Checks & balances

Three branchesI was out this evening for happy hour with my teacher wife and one of her teacher friends.  Conversation, as it so often does, turned toward teacher-y things.  Like a particular student’s difficulty grasping the three branches of the American government.  That got me sketching in order to kill time.
