Third day in a row of lacking sketch energy. Â So I reverted to simple letterforms, but decided to do all the remaining letters, so I won’t be tempted to use this lazy idea again. Â As it turned out, this took longer than expected due to having to sort out all the different shading values. Â That’s what I get for trying to take the easy route…

Yesterday’s Z was just a very quick and basic sketch because I was so tired. Â Same thing ended up happening today, so I reverted to something simple.

The letter Z — soon to be appearing in a speech bubble over my head. Â It’s the end of a long travel day at the end of a long week away, and I’m glad to be in my own bed again!

Nothing fancy — just more simple practice stuff. Â The idea here is to define a bunch of different forms using shadow rather than a perspective view. Â Some are a little off, but I think for the most part, the shapes come through. Â I’ll look for something more interesting tomorrow.

Sketched these in class tonight. Â Asked the instructor for any recommendations. Â He said, “Yeah, you went past the center line on this lamp shade. Â Unforgivable, dude. Â Look at this — this is impossible. Â You see? Â It doesn’t work. Â And this over here wouldn’t look like that. Â There would be more light right here. Â Good though.” Â I like this guy.

Was too busy tonight doing classwork to fit in anything else. Â So here’s the rest of the collection of random shape models. Â Inspiring stuff, eh? Â At least I’m getting a little more practice laying down marker ink.

My markers were getting away from me a little. Â This is part of another class assignment, practicing perspective and modeling with simple, invented shapes. Â I’m supposed to do several more of these (which is probably good, since I’m obviously kind of a noob with the Copic markers).

This is the other half of an assignment I was working on — the orthographic views of the same plane from Sketch #8. Â I think this one better captures the funny kind of stubbiness of this little plane. Â Once again, it’s primarily based off this painting.

Just finished this for a class assignment: my second ever attempt at true isometric drawing. Â (First one was all kinds of messed up.) Â This is the Laird “Super Solution” – apparently the fastest plane in 1931. Â Translated to isometric view based on this painting by Nixon Galloway.
