Now there’s an idea for a companion sketch.  Find an old bucket of earthworms and  draw “bait.”  In fact, why not a series of painfully literal interpretations of basic phrases?  Oh, right, because that would be lame.

A very long and busy day on this Carlsbad field trip.  Thought I would have a second to sketch during a lunch break by a waterfall.  So I set about drawing this geologist resting by the falls, and this is as far as it got before I was interrupted two or three minutes later to be on to the next thing.  Nice change of scenery from the office though, I’ll admit.  Now to much-needed bed.

I wish the sketch were a little better, but it’s been a long day, so I made it quick.  Anyway, this is a little tip of the cap to Ben and Sean, whose Photo 365 projects helped inspire my own sketch version.  Be sure to check out their great stuff — links over on the right.

Day 1 of the First International Conference on Mars Sedimentology and Stratigraphy in El Paso, TX (yes, it’s all you imagine it could be!).  Sketched this during a break in conference activities.

What’s that you say?  When am I going to include some exciting foreign locales in the Sketch 365 project?  The wait is over, my friend — that’s Juárez in the background.

On a business trip this week.  Got to my hotel room, and the pillow was wishing me “sweet dreams.”  Yeah, not interested.  Make me a pillow that says “Awesome Dreams!”  And on the backside should be embroidered a bullet list of potential starter ideas: jetpacks, avalanches, robots, swordfighting, hidden volcano fortresses, shootouts, international smuggling, time travel…

Not much to say about this one.  Just a quick sketch before heading to bed.  I drew that lamp on the right a couple of different (read: incorrect) ways before giving up and calling it a night.
