#139 – Branching out

Branches

This is the evolution of another little graphic idea for the web (commissioned by the lovely Mrs. Sketch 365).  And yes, I realize I’m pandering to my female readers with my recent posts of flowery branches, muscular shirtless men, and of course, Vanilla Ice.

#136 – Let me hear you say…

Bananas“This sketch! is bananas! B-A-N-A-N-A-S!”

(This reference! is archaic! And-to-an-atrocious-song!)

#135 – Look sharp!

SharpenerAnother “grab-the-nearest-object” sketch.  This little thing has been instrumental to almost all of the prismacolor pencil drawings on this site.  In fact, this drawing itself was done with a prisma pencil, so I actually had to use this sharpener while drawing it.  Hey, I should have drawn the actual pencil inside it.  And then me holding that pencil in my hand.  And then my actual pencil drawing my own hand.  And then, inevitably, this.

#134 – Celestial mechanics

Storyboards

If you’ll permit me one more post of these: here are a couple more storyboard frames from my work project.  Of course, these only barely qualify as sketches.  But since I was focused on doing a bunch of these today, I figured I’d grab a couple to post.

#133 – The face of neuroscience

NeuroscientistI know someone who’s going to be huge in brain resarch.  And I’ll always be able to say, “I knew her when…”

#132 – Avian assembly

Bird sketchesI was just messing around this evening and did this quick page of icon ideas.  I think I like the bottom two elements best, as well as the far right one.  Of course, I realize now that I should have done one of these to go with it.

#131 – Laura Linear

Straight linesTried something different with this one — drawing only with straight lines.  Kind of an interesting method; I think I’ll try it again in the future.

#130 – Workday wipeaway

MargaritaAnother lazy glassware sketch — but hey, good old reliable Mijares happy hour always does the trick.  Only problem here: the quick and sloppy attempt at salt on the rim looks more like dangerously broken glass.  Drink up!

#129 – Biff! Pow! Sock!

Biff! Pow! Sock!Saw this photo of a couple of friends of mine and couldn’t resist it.   Not to worry, this fight is only about as serious as an Adam West/Cesar Romero matchup.

#128 – Shady characters

Shady characterI did a few different sketches today, and this one based on a magazine photo turned out the most normal (even if he does look a bit crazed).  The other three were:

1) a figure drawing workshop sketch of a guy who my wife said looked like he should be the front end of a centaur;
2) a different sketch from a magazine photo that ended up looking like an old man in a water polo cap; and
3) a weird little mistake that I’ve dubbed “Blackbeard del Giacomo.”

Somehow I can’t seem to resist sharing that last little bonus outtake.  If you can guess its backstory, you win a yet-to-be-determined-but-sure-to-be-amazing prize.
