#121 – Oops, I Did It Again.

Another redacted roverI’ve been sketching a lot of these storyboard illustrations at work, and so I figured I could just use one of them for the daily post.  Unfortunately, I realized that the rover pictured here is also based on some drawings that may or may not be public.  I did several of these today, but nothing else, so a redacted version will have to do.

P.S. Sorry to “play with your heart,” get “lost in the game,” etc.

#118 – Plane and simple

Magnadoodle planeFirst Magnadoodle drawing on Sketch 365!

We went over to some friends’ house for dinner and I got to play with all their sons’ toys.  Wound up using one toy to depict another.  (Nerd note: the plane was actually Duplo, not Lego proper — but since it did bear the Lego insignia, I figured I’d include it.)

#117 – Martian invaders

Storyboard composite

That is to say, invaders of Mars, not invaders from Mars.  I’m starting to do some preliminary storyboard sketches at work for a new animation of a future series of proposed Mars missions.  These first few are based on some existing work, but I’m going to have to start inventing stuff soon.  Also, these early frames probably don’t make a lot of sense to the outside viewer, but some of the ones to come might.

#95 – Red(acted) Rover, Red(acted) Rover

RoverWhoops.  Based on some illustrations I have in a document at work, I drew this simplified sketch of a future Mars rover concept for the next decade.  Then I realized: I’m not sure whether that document has been publicly released yet. There’s about a billion to one chance that it’s a problem, but since a quick Google search didn’t turn up any images of this thing, I figured mine probably shouldn’t be the first one out there…

#93 – Modular Mars-scape

Mars outpost - version 1Taking the concept drawings from yesterday to the next level.  There are still many things I would want to do differently, but the idea starts to come together.  This would benefit from a lot more details throughout. I did have enough time to add a few details to the rovers (shown below), but overall there is a lot more time that would need to be invested in this idea.

#92 – Outpost ingredients

Outpost ingredientsA second attempt at some exploratory sketches for a future settlement on Mars.  I stepped it back a bit and took inspiration from desert bunkers, remote stations and the like.  I’m trying to think a little more realistically about what kind of stuff would really be taken to Mars.  But to avoid everything looking totally utilitarian, I modified the greenhouse dome a bit, drawing on inspiration from the design of London’s city hall (file under: Inevitable Dash of Pretension).

#57 – Test pilot

EP-80 (rough)This is an initial test for some more aviation sketches I may do for a brochure.  This was based on a photo, but I don’t think it works too well: the angle is too extreme.  Oh yeah, and the plane doesn’t fit on the page.  Another minor point I may want to consider.

#30 – From the “My First Responders” playset

Fire truckWent to John Beck’s studio tonight for some filming for “Tyranny.”  Amidst all the crazy stuff in his place (galvanometers, saxophones, maritime pulleys, you name it…) I spotted this model truck sitting on a shelf.  Fit in this quick sketch during breaks in shooting.

#26 – Sweet ride

I’m no paid spokesperson for Electra, but I can tell you they make a great bike.  This is Kelly’s townie, which she decked out with super-stylin’ hibiscus flower stickers.
