Went with a bunch of other video and visual FX people on a tour of Dreamworks Animation today.  They do a lot of very cool work there, especially in character design.  I drew this based on a life-sized statue that was in one of their lobbies.

Another day, another failure to think of anything to sketch.  Once again, I’m rescued by Flickr’s random and ever-changing art exhibition: “Interesting photos from the last 7 days.”  This is a simplified pen sketch inspired by this photo from Flickr user Peter French.

I have no explanation for these.  I just kind of sat down and started doodling.  How a gaunt weirdo, a tree, a crow and a jack-in-the-box fit together I have no idea.

Switching it up today with a white charcoal drawing.  This was inspired by a scene in The Day of the Jackal, which I was watching earlier this evening.

Tried something different this evening — wanted to see if I could do a bunch of different animals in a cohesive style.  These are just basic characterizations, but it would be interesting to try some other animals or people as well and see how that would work.

The USC/UCLA game is coming up this weekend.  Here’s my meager attempt to fly the colors.  Well, one of them anyway.

We’re heading for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow at my wife’s family’s place.  They’ve hosted everyone for years, and always do a great job.  We were thinking about getting them some kind of thank-you gift, and then my wife came up with the idea of me sketching something for them.  They’re labrador people, so hopefully they’ll like it.

Had my grandmother in town for a visit, and we spent the day doing lots of grandma type things (botanical gardens, tea, etc.).  As enjoyable as it was, at the end I felt like I needed to do something uniquely masculine to balance it all out.  Unfortunately, there were no grizzly bears around that I could punch in the face, so I had to settle for sketching it.
