#108 – Indoor/outdoor

Hotel entranceDrawn poolside at the hotel — this was a fun one to do.  And of course, vacation means you can spend an hour on a sketch if you want to…

#104 – Anniversary “gift”

KitchenAid mixerJust bought my wife of these great mixers.  Of course, this “gift” is a lot like when Homer buys Marge a bowling ball with “Homer” inscribed on it.  But if you’ve enjoyed her excellent baked goods, you’ll know why I’d want to encourage their regular production.

#88 – Now in glorious High Definition!

Panasonic HDX900Just another slice of what my day was like.  I spent most of the morning behind one of these Panasonic HD cameras, for a live broadcast we were doing at work.  Fun fact: just one of these things costs significantly more than any car I’ve ever owned.

As a side note: I was really uninspired to draw this evening, and even filled a sketchbook page with drawings I ended up hating.  They were quick pen drawings done while looking in the mirror (like yesterday’s), but of different facial expressions.  I was really bored and frustrated with them.  Then I sat down and got out different paper and some Copic markers (which I hadn’t used in about three weeks).  Switching up the style and tools made a huge difference.  Even though I made some frustrating mistakes on this one, I was ultimately much happier with it than the others, and had way more fun doing it.

#58 – Ladies’ choice

RollerskateThis is one of my wife’s skates that she occasionally teaches history in.  Yep.

I went with it since I haven’t got much mileage out of my red Copic markers yet.  Must find more objects that are Salmon Red, Lipstick Orange, and Cadmium Red.  If you think of any, be sure to let me know.

#36 – Laptop loner

Laptop lonerDay 1 of the First International Conference on Mars Sedimentology and Stratigraphy in El Paso, TX (yes, it’s all you imagine it could be!).  Sketched this during a break in conference activities.

What’s that you say?  When am I going to include some exciting foreign locales in the Sketch 365 project?  The wait is over, my friend — that’s Juárez in the background.

#35 – Pff. “Sweet Dreams.” Lame.

Hotel bedOn a business trip this week.  Got to my hotel room, and the pillow was wishing me “sweet dreams.”  Yeah, not interested.  Make me a pillow that says “Awesome Dreams!”  And on the backside should be embroidered a bullet list of potential starter ideas: jetpacks, avalanches, robots, swordfighting, hidden volcano fortresses, shootouts, international smuggling, time travel…

#32 – That’s bad for your eyes, young man.

Art Center cafeteriaLaptop guy should get some glasses so he doesn’t have to sit so close to the screen.

#25 – Nectar of the foul-breathed

CoffeemakerI think my sister-in-law was getting tired of all the boring cones and cylinders.  So she challenged me to do something a little more involved for the last of the Palm Springs product sketches.  Pretty happy with the shading of this, though I realized when I finished that the proportions are kind of off.  There’s no way for a coffeemaker with that small a reservoir to fill a pot that size.  Oh well.  Pretend you didn’t notice that.
