After two great weeks abroad (and one long travel day today), we’re back in California. Â A quick scribble before bed.

Went to the top of the highest mountain in Germany today. Â While descending on a rickety old cable car, of course I couldn’t help but think of Richard Burton’s epic ride. Â Thankfully mine didn’t include gruesome ice-axe injuries, or explosions and general death. Â Thanks for not trying to kill me, fellow riders!

This evening, a friend of mine introduced me to Cynar, a wacky Italian artichoke aperitif. Â (He himself is a wacky Italian, so I suppose it makes sense.) Â I imagine people must find it to be a pretty polarizing flavor, but I liked it. Â Then again, I eat Vegemite.

This thing hangs in the lobby of the hotel we’re at this week. Â Not sure why it’s a skull instead of a full head. Â I guess the global economic downturn has done a number on their taxidermy budget.

Sitting at LAX this evening waiting for a flight. Â Airports, I’ve found, are not so great for finding things to draw. Â That’s how you end up with a sketch like this.

Just took my cousin to the airport for a visit to the motherland. Â Best way to get there: Qantas A380. Â What’s that you say? Â You want to see the inside? Â You got it.

If your answer > $310, you didn’t go to Al Weiss. Â Seriously gents, take some cash and cut some deals. Â Those guys are great.

Today, I drew a forward-looking trumpet. Â You know, just because.

P.S. Yes, horn enthusiasts, I realize these valves aren’t exactly accurate. Â Hold your letters, please.

Finally got to welcome my cousin back to California today! Â This guy rode shotgun on the 3000-mile U-Haul trek, and saw her through scorching deserts, blown tires, and (shudder) Graceland. Â You’re a trooper, Bernie.
