#308 – Scott’s Monkey Trial
I recently watched an interesting presentation about creativity. Â Within it is a creative exercise that challenges you to: a) imagine a picture of a bear; b) think of a different bear; c)Â dig deeper and attempt to conjure a third visual of a bear. Â It gets increasingly difficult, but also requires creative thinking.
Anyway, I was thinking about that when I drew these. Â I took the idea pretty literally and tried to come up with three different ways of drawing something. Â In this case, I substituted the bear with a monkey (something that I’ve long been terrible at drawing from imagination). Â It was an interesting challenge. Â Later I noticed that my monkeys got progressively happier and more active. Â I guess that’s a good sign?

#306 – Accidental composition
So I did the quick sketch of the flask, didn’t really like it, and flipped the page. Â Did the even quicker sketch of the forlorn mountain man, didn’t really like it, and flipped the page. Â Then I went back and looked at the two together. Â Something seemed to match up, so I figured Photoshop should bring them together.

#297 – Ball’s in your court
#296 – Balancing act
#295 – Back to the salt mines
#293 – Jolly Good Fellow
#286 – Piper Down!
Heard a fascinating first-person story today from a man who ran out of fuel in his small plane over Alaska, and had to find a dirt road to put it down on, while operating with no engine. Â That’s a presence of mind that’s difficult to imagine. Â Of course, the story was stuck in my mind when sketch time rolled around.

#280 – A good day
Pretty much spent the whole day doing back-to-back stupid/awesome activities with friends. Â The annual horror/delight of the “scrambled eggsnog” breakfast, an early matinee of TRON, some more LEGO assembly, filling my face with delicious tacos, and finally a collective screening of a bad B-movie. Â It’s a pity days like this can’t last forever.
