#112 – MIssed opportuniTY

Mai taiI have failed you, loyal reader.  Sure, I drew a cool, refreshing mai tai — but did I complete the pun hat trick by also sketching “my tie” and “muay thai?”  I did not.  And now it’s too late.  I leave Hawaii in disgrace.

#111 – Alliteration & onomatopoeia

Flip flopAs long as we’re here, I’m sticking with the Hawaiian vacation theme.

#110 – The good life

HammockI figured I would want another good memento sketch from this week, and nothing says idyllic, laid-back vacation like relaxing in a hammock.  Seriously, as soon as I own two trees within ten feet of each other, I’m putting up one of these things.

#109 – All quiet on the western frond

Palm treeA bit of a cheat here: the wind was moving the trees around too much, so I actually did this later the evening based on a picture in the hotel room.  Lame, I know — but having that environmental control made it a lot easier.

As time investment goes, this is the opposite of yesterday’s sketch.  Fortunately, this subject matter allows you to get away with a very quick and basic version.  Simple as it is though, it’s cool too see how just a little variation in value can sell the dimensionality of the leaves.

#106 – Tall/Humor/Bike/Scooter

Logo concepts 2As part of the logo assignment from yesterday’s sketch, some of the other terms that came up were “tall,” “humor,” and “bike/scooter.”  These are a few of the very basic exploratory sketches based on those notions.  They also borrow heavily from my friend’s hilariously accurate description of me when I fold my 6’4″ frame onto my 125cc scooter: “You look like a trained bear on a tricycle.”

#104 – Anniversary “gift”

KitchenAid mixerJust bought my wife of these great mixers.  Of course, this “gift” is a lot like when Homer buys Marge a bowling ball with “Homer” inscribed on it.  But if you’ve enjoyed her excellent baked goods, you’ll know why I’d want to encourage their regular production.

#95 – Red(acted) Rover, Red(acted) Rover

RoverWhoops.  Based on some illustrations I have in a document at work, I drew this simplified sketch of a future Mars rover concept for the next decade.  Then I realized: I’m not sure whether that document has been publicly released yet. There’s about a billion to one chance that it’s a problem, but since a quick Google search didn’t turn up any images of this thing, I figured mine probably shouldn’t be the first one out there…

#94 – The Mystery Machine

The Mystery MachineOkay, so — the first person who can correctly identify what this thing does wins…oh, say, a dollar.  Wait, this may be super-easy.  This could be an ill-conceived contest…
