This is one of my wife’s skates that she occasionally teaches history in.  Yep.

I went with it since I haven’t got much mileage out of my red Copic markers yet.  Must find more objects that are Salmon Red, Lipstick Orange, and Cadmium Red.  If you think of any, be sure to let me know.

This is an initial test for some more aviation sketches I may do for a brochure.  This was based on a photo, but I don’t think it works too well: the angle is too extreme.  Oh yeah, and the plane doesn’t fit on the page.  Another minor point I may want to consider.

In a shocking upset to all conventional societal expectations, it turns out my mother-in-law is great.  Had a great day with her and the rest of the family.  Hope your Mothers’ Day was good too.

This is the first Sketch 365 piece that I’ve created based on a photo.  It feels a bit like cheating.  But the models sure stay still longer.

As I was roughing in the early marks of this very quick sketch, the main lines got a little long.  So now it’s some kind of super-deadly flying x-acto knife.  Then again, I seem to do a lot of object sketches, which aren’t all that dynamic — so maybe this is a happy accident.  Until someone puts their eye out.

May 7th, Take 1.  This is what I was looking at for most of the May 7th that started in Australia: the inside of a Qantas Airbus A380.  Not a terribly exciting sketch, but when you’re stuck in the same chair all day, there’s not much to choose from.

One more day to spend in Sydney with my grandmother and family.  This is one of the many flowers now gracing her living room.  In fact, it’s just below the spot where we framed and mounted the remarkable portrait recently drawn by Bruce Hedges.  Thanks again, Bruce — for your amazing work, and for your encouragement in this venture of mine.

Once again, the Sketch 365 project provides an valuable record of what’s going on in my life throughout the year.  Today, I attended my grandfather’s funeral in Sydney, and wore this watch of his, given to me by my grandmother.

At my grandmother’s in Sydney, I was admiring this fantastically comfortable wooden chair (which I’m told is designed for playing bridge).  The seat back pivots on two dowels, and is 100% awesome and super-comfortable.  I was told I could eventually have it, but in the interest of not stuffing furniture in the overhead compartment, I figured I’d do some orthographic sketches so maybe I can build one some day.
