The USC/UCLA game is coming up this weekend. Â Here’s my meager attempt to fly the colors. Â Well, one of them anyway.
(Actually, this had nothing to do with the game — just  a quick, late-night Flickr sketch.  Based on a photo by Gypsy Flores.)

My friend from yesterday’s sketch was actually admitted to the hospital for surgery. Thankfully it went well, but since he was drugged up with a dead arm, I went by the hospital and picked up his car for him. For better or worse, it’s the absolute opposite of what I’m used to driving.

So this drawing barely got started before I was literally falling asleep at the page. Â I couldn’t keep my eyes open long enough to do anything other than the initial lay-in shown here. Â If you can identify it, I’ll be most impressed.

My wife’s big into smoothies at the moment, so I’m big into making them. Â They’re not usually this blood red, but hey, that’s the only colored marker I have, in case you hadn’t noticed.
Oh, and thanks, Tom Dickson, for letting me borrow your slogan.  Actually, that raises an interesting question.  Could a Blendtec machine blend one of its own competitors?  Think of it: a super-sized blender-eating blender.  Like the Robosaurus of kitchen appliances.  Sir, I think I can speak for the entire internet when I say, “Please get to work on that.”

Got an additional new computer at work today. Â Not exciting, however: it’s a PC (*groan*), which I only need in order to a) access an archaic JPL database; and b) control the DVD duplicator shown above. Â So I spent a large chunk of my day getting two loathsome machines to talk to one another. Â PCs I can live with, but I’ve got no love for DVDs. Â Please die already, terrible technology!

This is also a response to my wife’s little drawing challenge over at The Give Way. The very specific commission: an elephant eating cotton candy.
I also figured that after the past three day’s sketches featuring venomous creatures, tongues of fire, and vein-bulgingly hypermasculine posturing, I figured it was time to swing to the other side and go overboard cutesy.

Drove to Switzerland today to spend some time with more extended family and my super-cool in-laws.
This sketch was mostly an exercise in motor control. Â It’s not easy to control a marker exactly how you want to and have everything come out right. Â I did about 25 of these before I settled on one I was happy with. Â Seems like a lot of work for a “drawing” that’s only make up of 14 straight lines. Â Still had fun though.

While I was shopping for menswear recently, the sales guy pulled out a tie for me and I thought, “That’s ugly and I would never buy it.” Â So I bought it. Â (After having looked at it for a couple minutes, it had really grown on me.)
When I took it home, my wife said, “But you hate paisley!” Â I hadn’t even seen it in there. Â So observant. Â Anyway, I wore that tie today and messed around this evening sloppily sketching the pattern.

This evening, a friend of mine introduced me to Cynar, a wacky Italian artichoke aperitif. Â (He himself is a wacky Italian, so I suppose it makes sense.) Â I imagine people must find it to be a pretty polarizing flavor, but I liked it. Â Then again, I eat Vegemite.
