#242 – Shine a little light

Frezzi mini-fillEvery once in a while, I get the compulsion to geek out and draw tools of the trade (“the trade” pretty much expanding to include all variety of visual arts).  Today’s installment: the Frezzi Mini-Fill Camera-Top Lighthead!  I’m sure you loyal readers have been clamoring to see my representation of this fine video accessory.  At long last, that day is here!

#240 – Up on a pedestal

Model on stoolThis evening I dropped by one of Art Center’s figure drawing workshops for the first time in several weeks.  Amazing how rusty you can get so quickly.  Anyway, this session was with a larger model, and on this particular pose I had an weird, unflattering viewing angle, so I tried composing the sketch in a different way.

#239 – Will it blend?

BlenderMy wife’s big into smoothies at the moment, so I’m big into making them.  They’re not usually this blood red, but hey, that’s the only colored marker I have, in case you hadn’t noticed.

Oh, and thanks, Tom Dickson, for letting me borrow your slogan.  Actually, that raises an interesting question.  Could a Blendtec machine blend one of its own competitors?  Think of it: a super-sized blender-eating blender.  Like the Robosaurus of kitchen appliances.  Sir, I think I can speak for the entire internet when I say, “Please get to work on that.”

#236 – Checks & balances

Three branchesI was out this evening for happy hour with my teacher wife and one of her teacher friends.  Conversation, as it so often does, turned toward teacher-y things.  Like a particular student’s difficulty grasping the three branches of the American government.  That got me sketching in order to kill time.

#234 – Le peloton

PelotonA very simple sketch this evening, since I’ve got a painfully early morning tomorrow.  This was inspired by a group of riders who crossed my path on the way home from work today.

#233 – The hated officemate

Primera Bravo ProGot an additional new computer at work today.  Not exciting, however: it’s a PC (*groan*), which I only need in order to a) access an archaic JPL database; and b) control the DVD duplicator shown above.  So I spent a large chunk of my day getting two loathsome machines to talk to one another.  PCs I can live with, but I’ve got no love for DVDs.  Please die already, terrible technology!

#231 – @ lager heads

Beer

Didn’t really feel like drawing today.  Felt more like having a beer or two.  I ended up doing both, but it wasn’t hard to guess what  was going to work its way into the sketch…

#230 – Completion pending

Completion pendingWent over to my cousins’ place tonight to watch the USC/Oregon game — the outcome of which does not need to be discussed here.  Suffice it to say, we had some excellent enchiladas, and that’s all that matters.

(Full credit: this sketch is based on a photo found here.)

#229 – To a “T”

Model TMy mind was stuck in a different era today, after Fish Hunter Phil sent me a link to this fascinating story from a century ago.  Seriously, if you have a little time, go listen to that story — it’s quite a piece of work.

#215 – Cut your losses

EdselSo this was just based on a random photo I found on Flickr.  Had a bit of trouble with the figure in this drawing.  I kept erasing bits, modifying the proportions and so on, but it kept not working right.  Eventually, I realized I had to erase her completely and start again from scratch.  How appropriate, it then seemed, that she should be standing in front of an Edsel…
