#98 – Blue 42

Football snap sketchI’m working on a new digital illustration that’s meant to incorporate some kind of action between foreground and background elements.  This is just a quick exploratory sketch to see if this kind of composition could work for it.  Things would obviously need to be shifted around a bit, but I think the basic camera angle will work.

#94 – The Mystery Machine

The Mystery MachineOkay, so — the first person who can correctly identify what this thing does wins…oh, say, a dollar.  Wait, this may be super-easy.  This could be an ill-conceived contest…

#89 – Eyes on the prize

365Been thinking a lot about my 365 project today. I’m really enjoying this, and am almost a quarter of the way finished already.  If you’re not doing a daily (or weekly) creative project yourself, please think about starting one!

#88 – Now in glorious High Definition!

Panasonic HDX900Just another slice of what my day was like.  I spent most of the morning behind one of these Panasonic HD cameras, for a live broadcast we were doing at work.  Fun fact: just one of these things costs significantly more than any car I’ve ever owned.

As a side note: I was really uninspired to draw this evening, and even filled a sketchbook page with drawings I ended up hating.  They were quick pen drawings done while looking in the mirror (like yesterday’s), but of different facial expressions.  I was really bored and frustrated with them.  Then I sat down and got out different paper and some Copic markers (which I hadn’t used in about three weeks).  Switching up the style and tools made a huge difference.  Even though I made some frustrating mistakes on this one, I was ultimately much happier with it than the others, and had way more fun doing it.

#60 – We Bring Odd Things to Life.

Electric chord organ

A great thrift store find from several years back.  This fan-driven wonder emits an unholy honk with every key (after a split-second delay, of course).  Or if you listen to the manufacturers:

“Everyone wants a turn when you have a GE Electric Chord Organ in the house! Color-coded music book comes with it. It’ll have you playing chords and melodies in no time at all! Pleasant start to a musical education…for everyone!”

#57 – Test pilot

EP-80 (rough)This is an initial test for some more aviation sketches I may do for a brochure.  This was based on a photo, but I don’t think it works too well: the angle is too extreme.  Oh yeah, and the plane doesn’t fit on the page.  Another minor point I may want to consider.

#53 – Airbusâ„¢! All the fun of riding the bus, but in mid-air!

Airbus cabinMay 7th, Take 1.  This is what I was looking at for most of the May 7th that started in Australia: the inside of a Qantas Airbus A380.  Not a terribly exciting sketch, but when you’re stuck in the same chair all day, there’s not much to choose from.

#45 – “Put ‘er in the vise!”

Vice grips…as my 92-year-old grandfather-in-law like to say whenever he’s about to vigorously shake hands with you.  He, as you might have guessed, is awesome.
