Every once in a while, I get the compulsion to geek out and draw tools of the trade (“the trade” pretty much expanding to include all variety of visual arts). Â Today’s installment: the Frezzi Mini-Fill Camera-Top Lighthead! Â I’m sure you loyal readers have been clamoring to see my representation of this fine video accessory. Â At long last, that day is here!

This evening I dropped by one of Art Center’s figure drawing workshops for the first time in several weeks.  Amazing how rusty you can get so quickly.  Anyway, this session was with a larger model, and on this particular pose I had an weird, unflattering viewing angle, so I tried composing the sketch in a different way.

My wife’s big into smoothies at the moment, so I’m big into making them. Â They’re not usually this blood red, but hey, that’s the only colored marker I have, in case you hadn’t noticed.
Oh, and thanks, Tom Dickson, for letting me borrow your slogan.  Actually, that raises an interesting question.  Could a Blendtec machine blend one of its own competitors?  Think of it: a super-sized blender-eating blender.  Like the Robosaurus of kitchen appliances.  Sir, I think I can speak for the entire internet when I say, “Please get to work on that.”

Love him or hate him, this guy was unarguably a tremendous talent. Â I drew this tonight after watching the tragically fascinating “This Is It.”

Got an additional new computer at work today. Â Not exciting, however: it’s a PC (*groan*), which I only need in order to a) access an archaic JPL database; and b) control the DVD duplicator shown above. Â So I spent a large chunk of my day getting two loathsome machines to talk to one another. Â PCs I can live with, but I’ve got no love for DVDs. Â Please die already, terrible technology!

Went over to my cousins’ place tonight to watch the USC/Oregon game — the outcome of which does not need to be discussed here. Â Suffice it to say, we had some excellent enchiladas, and that’s all that matters.

My mind was stuck in a different era today, after Fish Hunter Phil sent me a link to this fascinating story from a century ago.  Seriously, if you have a little time, go listen to that story — it’s quite a piece of work.

This was inspired by today’s visit to  the dentist, where I was subjected to a full suite of scheduled irradiation.  These dental x-rays have such excellent names.  Which got me thinking: “Panorex Bitewing” would be a pretty great name for a spaceship commander.  You’re welcome, struggling sci-fi writers!

Just wanted to do a quick figure study this evening, since I hadn’t done one in a long time. Â So I headed to Flickr and found this amazing photo by user Ryan Muir. Â I just scribbled a quick and basic figure study, but seriously, check out the original photo — it’s incredible.
Oh, and as for my sketch title, it’s just a little inversion based on the following discovery: I learned that the guy in the photo (the guitarist for The Roots) goes by the excellent name “Cap’n Kirk Douglas.” Â His definitely has a better ring to it.

This is the last thing that bee saw this morning before I tore him to pieces with my bare neck. Â Oh sure, Bee — you got a little sting in there, but you are now most unarguably dead, AND I EMERGE THE VICTOR!!
Next time try picking on someone your own size.
